Sleep Wear

Have you ever wondered what you wear to bed if anything at all? What makes you bored? Do colorful clothes or dull blacks and whites make you less motivated? I personally will wear some dull clothes to bed. Anything from plain black, gray or white or any shade of gray in between really helps set the tone for me to sleep quickly. I know people currently like grey sweatpants and might put some woman in the mood if their partner wears grey sweatpants but lets be serious for a moment about sleep so we can also be serious about our health.

Colorful clothes tend to wake me up and get my attention quickly so at my age it really helps to have something like red to wear for the day or if its my day off then just a robe to get the mail, have coffee and read a book or newspaper.

Ask yourself what you want to wear to bed. Find out what is boring and makes you less motivated so you can find that melatonin faster and sleep quicker. Good Luck, Happy Sleeping! 😇

Day 259😴

Night Shift Struggles

I’m going to highlight some struggles that come from working over nights. At this moment I don’t have solutions to all of these struggles but by sharing these collective opinions and real life scenarios maybe some other people will agree and not judge the bags under our eyes.

I want to highlight the Majority Rule. This means the majority of our population are present working the morning shift. This is a fact that can’t be contested. I am highlighting this fact because it plays the largest role in understanding why people who work over nights are constantly asked What’s Wrong?

Allow me to go into detail of some struggles that myself and people alike experience working over nights and also mention that there is little room for improvement while working this shift. There is always the option to remove myself from working over nights and move to a better well adjusted shift but who else will make sure the companies and people we love are safe and secure while they sleep? Without wasting any more time lets try to understand What is Wrong.

  • In order to keep a routine working over night, you also stay awake on your days off over night. ( Difference here again is day shift would most likely be up early as well on their day off, so Why Wouldn’t Grave Shift Also Be Up On Their Nights Off? ) Unfortunately working overnight there is a lack of population available to socialize while you are awake overnight on your days off. While working day shift there are several more options available to socialize on your day off. So it goes hand in hand when people ask us what is wrong…..well “I want to talk to you on my day off [grave shift] but you are sleeping, and you want to talk to me on your days off [day shift] but I am sleeping.)” This is a constant struggle, push and pull to be available for everyone while also taking care of ourselves.
  • Again I want to re-iterate that Day Shift is the Majority working shift while Grave Shift is the Minority working shift. I don’t even like calling it day and grave shift, I would rather use a number system and call it 1st, 2nd, 3rd shifts. However unfortunately the majority of population, society, the public work day shift. Likewise, the minority people working the 3rd shift will most likely be less healthy and end up in a grave sooner than anyone working day shift so the name is appropriate. Of course there are no studies for this and would be impossible to find any good data to prove this because no 2 people are the same, eating, drinking, sleeping the same. This brings me to the pity party. Working over nights for several years has brought to my attention that there is a much greater life to live on another shift and I am grateful for that and appreciate the people starting business every morning to keep companies moving forward. How come Grave Shift doesn’t get that same gratefulness, or appreciation for being the bodies that make sure the people around us, and the companies we work for; safe and secure throughout the night? I appreciate Day Shift but Grave Shift is also judged on their lack of knowledge, communication, and appearance. For example bags under their eyes while their bodies are in constant torture and torment over a long period of time not seeing the sun as often as people on day shift. Or how about the standard operating procedures that constantly change from day to day only on Day Shift and may or may not be passed along to another shift.
  • Yes we are exhausted 24/7. This is because we try to accommodate both our working lives and our personal lives with the same 24hrs that someone on Day Shift would also have available. (The difference would be if Day Shift was to go to work, then from there have dinner, and after dinner also attend a music concert at least 3 times a week, including the weekends, even the day before you go back to work the next morning.) This is where the exhaustion would start to take affect and people on day shift would feel the way grave shift feels trying to accommodate an entirely different lifestyle. The bonus to working day shift is you would still feel normal because you would have more daylight to play with, unlike Grave Shift because Grave Shift sleeps during the day. [This is the reason why I mention there is very little to no improvement possible while working grave shift]

So now allow me to inform you and summarize the high contrast of working Grave Shift vs. Day Shift.

  • Accommodations ( Time Management )
  • Tasks may or may not get finished in your personal life because you are sleeping during rush hour times. ( Feeling of Guilt ) This also pertains to feeling guilty for sleeping while being sleep deprived.
  • Lack of socializing ( Family Affairs )
  • Sleep Apnea, Taking naps, Asleep @ wheel. ( Health Conditions )
  • Explaining over and over to the same people your schedule. ( Normal Society Assumptions ) This is the Majority Rule that no one talks about because its not normal to the Majority Public Society to work over night. We are “supposed” to sleep over night.
  • Not knowing if you’re eating too much or too little or if you even ate all! ( Appetite )
  • Always feeling tired, Autopilot. ( No cure )
  • Judgement. ( Appearance, Knowledge, Communication. )

To sum this all up. There is a huge sacrifice working Grave Shift. Sacrifice of friends, sacrifice of family, sacrifice to taking care of yourself. This is entirely a different lifestyle unfortunately. Fortunately there are ways to cope and technology is playing a large role in dissolving the line between shifts. Examples include live chat with gamers or strangers from all over the world at different time zones. This is great for your days off but unfortunately when duty calls the majority of your work week will be desolate and in solitude unless you find a game partner, a work out partner, a partner to enjoy entertainment the same time you can. Technology is able to empower people working over nights from a distance. However in close proximity working over nights is still a very independent shift. You may find people working over nights happy on the outside but dead on the inside. We give and give and give but take nothing in return. Thankfully we can rid ourselves of the dead feeling on the inside if the people around us just understand where we are coming from. We have to set strict boundaries, consistent schedules, and make time to enjoy the people around but also take time to take care of ourselves ( The Majority ). [ What would this world look like and feel like if the Majority of the Public worked through the night instead of the daylight? ]

We can really shine Over Night by taking care of our appearance, communicating over long periods of time, educating and updating ourselves and enjoying as much entertainment on the weekends as we can. [ Finding events or activities to attend on our weekend can help with socializing and fitting into the Normal Society of Day Shift ]

Please don’t judge the bags under our eyes and respond when you can so we know we aren’t staying awake for nothing.

Day 256 😴

Time. How much time do you work? How much time do you rest/sleep? How much time do you take for yourself? I’m going to introduce my own 24 hour schedule and break it down what a regular work day is. My weekends are much different but I can write about that another time.

10hr – 8hr – 6hr Rule = 24hrs.

I work about 10 hours a regular day including travel. I rest or try to sleep for 8 hours a day and try to take 6 hours for myself. Time for myself includes eating, hygiene and any other various tasks inside or outside the house that must be done. I know this will be controversial because my priorities are not the same as others. This is my personal recommended rule for splitting up your 24hr work day. This doesn’t have to be followed one hundred percent and most likely never will because distractions are always popping up around the corner unannounced. I can confidently say getting more rest or at least close to equal parts of work and rest that you will feel better and better. Most people I speak too get an average of 4 to 6 hours of sleep. This is absolutely insane when you consider the amount of time you let your body rest compared the amount of time you keep your body awake burning energy. Even if you burn little energy all day long so you can sleep less hours you body isn’t given enough time to heal. To make matters worse some people will burn even more energy by working out after or before there regular shift of work. I personally don’t agree with this unless you are consistently able to get a full 8hrs of rest to recover. Otherwise what you are doing is burning exponential amount of energy and possibly getting less rest not allowing your body to recover as quick as possible. I truly believe that rest is more important than exercise. Don’t get it twisted, work must be done. The point of this article is to balance your work / personal life time. If you work a lot; eat good amounts of food and also rest a lot. If you do little work, don’t eat as much food and you may feel your body not wanting to go to sleep, or maybe not stay asleep. Once you find a comfortable feeling try to maintain what ever your doing to obtain that comfortable feeling again. This is in no way shape or form enabling you in a horrible way. You should feel good, everyone should feel good. So don’t beat yourself up endlessly. Work but don’t work too hard, sleep but don’t sleep too long, do what you want with the little time you have left over.

Day 239 😴


This is probably going to be very controversial for many people but it must be mentioned because it does work. I don’t condone this activity but I do enjoy it myself from time to time and is not harmful to most people if used in moderation like anything else. I won’t have to mention much here, most people already know the affects of alcohol and how you get a buzzed dizzy feeling depending on how much you consume. Some people become more comfortable around people consuming alcohol and that is what I want people to take away from this. Alcohol can make you feel more comfortable to rest. People with insomnia or a.d.d. or a.d.h.d. might use alcohol as a way to help them focus so their minds don’t race allowing them to fall asleep quick and peaceful. I personally recommend you consume alcohol while you are comfortable and not while you are in any irritated or angry mood. Alcohol can work for you or against you depending on the person so drink responsibly and try to consume in a comfortable environment where you are safe and at ease of any stress. Happy Sleeping 😇

Day 224 😴

Today I want to express something important. The ELEVATION OF YOUR BED. I have acid reflux like the rest of the 20% of Americans. It is suggested by many medical professionals to elevate your bed at least 6 to 8 inches where you lay your head. This works excellent for me. The idea is that while you are sleeping gravity naturally works with your stomach to relieve any congestion and preventing any stomach acid or food coming back up into your throat. I already have a wedge pillow on my blog that you can purchase to also help with this elevation change however I personally recommend making the whole head of your bed higher than the foot of your bed. This allows side sleepers to lay comfortably without the use of a bed wedge. If you don’t have any options available to raise the head of your bed then purchase a bed wedge cheap at Walmart. If you are not sure if your bed is level or elevated find someone who has a level or purchase one from your local hardware store. Give your a bed a level check so you can sleep easily and wake up refreshed! This cost you little to nothing even on a budget so why not try? Happy Sleeping! 😇

Day 192 😴

Today I’m going to speak about Cool Mist Ultrasonic Aroma Diffuser Set from Walmart. This specific set lasts up to 3 hours. It has 2 essential oils, Lavender and Eucalyptus. These are liquid essential oils just to clarify lol. This Diffuser also has Auto shut-off when water level runs low. Mine is a nice light beige color with a white base. I just opened it up and noticed it powered by a usb micro cable. This does not plug into the wall at all. I have to plug this into a charger of some sort or a computer. This might be the reason its only good for 3 hours. I definitely wouldn’t trust this thing overnight while I’m sleeping. This product is $20 so for the price I’m not complaining. Between the electric motor and the 2 essential liquid oils it’s worth the money. My expectations got the best of me and my assumptions were wrong. I thought this would come with its own plug for the wall or at least its own usb plug charger but I am wrong. I do have one physical evident complaint. The usb micro port has green spots on it. This is an indication that some type of moisture or water go into the port so I’m skeptical that the one I bought was a returned product or refurbished. I’ll plug it in and see if it works and considering the port looks healthy otherwise I may be able to use some isopropyl alcohol and clean up any rusting residue. I hope this product works and I’ll plug it into my computer so I can smell the great fragrances while I continue my blog and other activities online. My only worry is that the port doesn’t work like it’s supposed too because of the rusted contacts and it shorts out and hurts my computer. The $20 makes this item worth it but it’s got me worried for the sake of a fire starting so if you are going to pick one of these diffusers up keep an eye on it and unplug it while you are away from home. Day 181 😴

Today I found a nice candle 🕯️ to share.  It is purple and has white letters and I would personally say it’s a medium size candle.  I tried looking to see who makes the candle but it is just described as a Walmart item.  Under the candle says made in Vietnam.  This candle is identified as RELAX.  It includes scents of lavender + jasmine + chamomile.  This candle is also created from a blend of 2 materials, coconut and wax. 

I used this candle last night.  I was getting ready to sleep doing my normal routine of brushing my teeth and shaving and taking a shower and let it burn so I could smell it before I sleep.  I could definitely smell the lavender in this candle. I blew out the candle before I went to sleep for no worry of starting a fire while getting some rest. I will definitely keep this candle and even grab another just for the scent. This is definitely a relaxing aroma and I slept very well. I would highly recommend looking into these relaxing candles at Walmart. Day 170/365 😴

I ordered my first sleep product for review! This is called the ANVO Memory Foam Pillow sold @ Amazon! This pillow is super soft! It is ergonomic with 2 heights for side sleepers and back sleepers! The color is white with blue lines and is easily washable. Wash w/same colors. This pillow is highly rated and I highly recommend checking this pillow out on Amazon. ANVO doesn’t just do pillows. They have several comfortable stylish home products including pillow cases, bath towels, and bedding materials. I paid $40 for this pillow and like the manual states it does take time to work affectively because for years your neck was aligned a different way. This pillow will flex with your neck helping your spine and allow you to stay asleep longer because you will be more comfortable.

What is your preference of pillow? Firm, medium, soft? I personally enjoy a firm pillow so I may ask ANVO to trade in this soft pillow for a more firm one. Oh ya, ANVO will customize your home products like this pillow to your preference. Don’t hesitate to let them know your preference. Day 156/365 😴

I just added a link tonight inside my sleep gallery and a button to click on. This button will redirect you to Walmart to buy a bed wedge made by Mainstays. I have already covered the subject of bed wedges so I don’t want to go into many details. I just want to say that the bed wedge from Walmart is cheap and it certainly does the trick for me especially when I get indigestion or heart burn. This is a very cheap trick to get better sleep and I might even go as far to say this could prevent sleep apnea if used correctly but everybody is different. Everybody is also dealing with their own conditions so I can’t take credit if this does or doesn’t work for some people. Today I want to talk about Circadian Rhythm. This is your biological clock that helps our organs operate efficiently so our mood and digestion and other functions like metabolism can operate normally.
